Below are some valuable resources you’ll need to know and have when getting your business license:When securing your business license in the state of Georgia you’ll need to secure your license with the state and the county you’re doing business in. If you have a physical location in more than one county chances are you’ll need to have a license for each of those locations. Here is link for the state: https://sos.ga.gov/index.php/corporations

- Do you have your Business Plan? There are several ways you can have your business plan done:
- You can hire a business attorney,
- You can try to have an accountant do it, or you can do it yourself with the SBA “Build Your Business Plan” page, it’s a good resource you can use any time and it’s free.

Another name for it is called the Federal Employer Identification Number.(Link to get your EIN Here)State Tax Identification Number: If you’re selling an actual product you’ll need a state tax identification number, if you’re selling a service you wont need a state tax identification number as of the release of this post. County License: The fee for your county license will vary in each county. You’ll need to call your local business to find out what the costs will be.Articles of Incorporation
Depending on whether you’re a for profit or non profit determines how you should complete your articles of incorporation. You can download a sample Articles of Incorporation here and customize it how you need to (Link Here) Once you’ve finished your articles of Incorporation you can acquire your business license online for $100 initial fee and $50 each year after. The Annual Registration period for entities registered with the Secretary of State is from Jan. 1 – April 1 each year.
According to georgia.gov the outline below can be used to setup your articles of incorporation:
Corporation’s exact name.
Article 2 [PROFIT]
The number of shares that the corporation will be authorized to issue (not 0).
Article 2 [NONPROFIT]
“The corporation is organized pursuant to the Georgia Nonprofit Corporation Code.”
Street address and county of the registered office – can’t be a post office box – and the name of the registered agent.
Name and address of each incorporator – that’s you!
Article 5 [NONPROFIT]
A statement of whether or not the corporation will have members. (This is an additional article that has no equivalent for profit businesses.)
Article 5 [PROFIT] and Article 6 [NONPROFIT]
Mailing address of the corporation’s principal office, if it’s different from the registered office. This address can be a post office box. This is how the Corporations Division will correspond with you.
Name reservation request: If you’re in the process of naming your business you can complete a name reservation request to hold the name you’re wanting to name your business. The cost is $25 dollars and will hold your name for 30 days. You can do a name search at: https://ecorp.sos.ga.gov/ to see if the name is available
